How do we select our candidates?
Our selection process is a careful, systematic process involving screening, interviewing, and reference checking. Find out what we look for during this process below.
Basic requirements for our candidates
Matric Certificate
Our candidates must have a Matric or equivalent qualification
19 to 35 Years
Driver’s license & car
A valid code B drivers license is required, as well as a vehicle
Experience
Candidates must have at least 12 months experience working in a child-related position(s).
How our au pair agency works
Our candidates are carefully screened and selected. Each chosen candidate has to make it through our stringent interview process, which involves an interview of ~60 minutes. During the registration process they have to pass a first aid test and a childcare knowledge questionnaire. Only high-quality candidates make it onto our database. We also look for the following:
Genuine interest
A genuine interest in children and spending time in their presence
Organisational skills
A good organiser who is able to plan things and manage time efficiently
Awareness
Able to find a balance between being a child’s friend and being their mentor and or motivator
Cool head
Able to keep it together – someone who will not become too anxious or flustered during challenging situations
Smarts
Ability to support children academically, educationally and/or through stimulation
Willingness
A willingness and desire to invest in a child’s life and development
Quick learner
Someone who is quick to learn and open to doing so frequently
Adaptability
Being willing and flexible to reshape themselves to fit in with a family’s needs and their way of doing things
Reliability
Giving 100% to make and keep a family happy, and to not let them down in time of need
Passion
Those who care; who are not just doing it for money or convenience only
Dependability
A mature and responsible person who parents can rely on to get things done
Boundaries
Ability to be firm if required and set boundaries when and where needed
Confidence
A person who is confident in themselves and their skills, and able to reason carefully and clearly
Communication
Someone with good communication skills who will strive to keep an open line of communication with their employer
Commitment
Someone who will not just up and leave at the next best opportunity
